Perhaps the most well-known attraction on Cornwall Island is the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. The casino is located on over 30,000 acres of tribal land and draws in 1.3+ million visitors annually to explore the 1500 slot machines. Cornwall Island and the Akwesasne Mohawk Region is steeped in indigenous historical roots. Located at the heart of this area is the Akwesasne Mohawk Cultural Centre, Library, and Museum. The center is intended to preserve and educate on cultural materials including photographs, art, baskets, wampum belts, cornhusk dolls, etc. An extension of this center is the cultural tour, which is a 3-day, 2-night experience to learn about the Mohawk beliefs and traditions. If you're interested in experiencing more of the Mohawk Culture, every year the Akwesasne International Powwow is hosted every September. Also in the education field on Cornwall Island is Native North American Traveling College which teaches art, and dances to children and youth. Some other notable landmarks in the area are the Peace Tree Mall, Thompson Island Cultural Camp, Akwesasne Mohawk School (AMS), and the Turtle Dome.
